Modern Warfare 2 - Tradecraft - Environment Art

While I am no longer a develop at Infinity Ward, during my time there I had the pleasure to work on the Amsterdam level in Modern Warfare 2 campaign. On this level I was responsible for seeing Amsterdam's Oude Church through to completion from blockout to the final level. Given that much of the church was photoscanned my job was two-fold.

First I had to blockout the church and get the dimensions right in game, made much easier from my architectural background. Where possible I setup the blockout as modular architectural pieces. A task that brought me back to architecture school, as I was trying to remember old terms and descriptions of classical and gothic architecture to name all the pieces. This step over, I then had to interpolate the scanned data into game ready assets and modular pieces. Here I had help from the team, as other very talented artists assisted with using scan data to model the assets and create tileable textures.

After the components were ready, I modeled and textured the church using the aforementioned scanned assets in-game, with some one-off modeling, UVing, and texturing where needed.

Shoutout to Jeongmin Lee who did a great job modeling all the gothic tracery on the windows: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/obbwGW
